Annotation is a significant part of both research and industry in computational linguistics and Brandeis is one of the few programs that have a class specifically aimed at providing students a structured way to learn the process of annotation by actually doing it. This experiential course covers each step of the annotation process from corpus selection and model design through evaluating inter-annotator agreement and creating a gold standard. Along the way we’ll look at many other annotation efforts.
This page will contain announcements and assignments. Note that what happens in class is the final word, so pay attention to any updates.
Grades are based on project deliverables. Since much of the work will be done in class, attendance is mandatory.
